Tuma Craft or Dried Gourd carving is a unique craft native to the region of Bastar, Chattisgarh in India. Bottle Gourd, often consumed across the world as a vegetable is dried and etched with hot knives. Beautiful patterns are etched onto the gourd and from having a mere utilitarian value, the gourd becomes decorative and a variety of products can be produced. This recently developed craft is testimony to craft innovation and has created a new means of revenue for many artisans from Bastar. The products made using this technique range from wall hangings, wind chimes, planters, hanging lamps and jewellery.
