Banana Fibre, just like Jute Fibre is an eco friendly fibre that is processed and made extensively in South India. When the trunk of the banana plant is processed and treated, it yields banana fibre. The natural fibre from the banana plant has to be extracted with care to ensure no damage is caused. To remove excess moisture from the plant, the cut portions of the main stem were rolled lightly. The fibre then was combed to remove unwanted particles and then cleaned and dried. Also, the fibre strips acquired from the dark bark of the banana plant was segregated into brown, cream and dark colours. The fibre strips are then twined into ropes which can then be dyed to any desired colour. These coloured ropes also known as yarns are then hand woven into a wide range of products.
