About Knitting

The word knitting would typically conjure up an image of a grandmother adoringly busy with her two needles in all probabilities making sweaters and booties and little caps for her grandchildren. A stereotypical albeit an endearing image, today knitting is not the same anymore. With the younger generation also taking an active interest in the craft, today designs and patterns, when it comes to woollen wear, transcends all imagination. The earliest known evidence of knitting was coloured socks found in Egypt at the end of the first millennium AD. Knitting typically involves multiple loops of yarn, called stitches, in a line. Knitting can be done both by hand and/or machine. To create fabrics of different textures, different yarns, knitting needles and stitches are used. Knitting has evolved from being a hobby to allowing people to have their own home based business.
