About GopalĀ Chippa

Dabu and Bagru Hand printing.

Dabu and Bagru printing are unique art forms from Rajasthan.

Dabu printing also known as mud printing utilises raw materials that nature has to offer, namely mud and water. A design/ pattern is drawn on the cloth and covered with a mud/clay paste. The fabric is then dyed using natural dyes.

After dyeing and drying, the cloth is washed to remove the clay and the mixture. The areas with clay on it remain untouched and this form of printing is also known as resist printing.

To add more colours or to give another design dimension, the cloth is dyed in a lighter shade to colour the untouched pattern areas.

Gopal and family have been practicing this art for generations.
